Community Invited to Bilingual Interfaith Vigil Honoring the Life and Legacy of Pope Francis

ALCOA, TN — Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church warmly invites the community to a special bilingual interfaith vigil in remembrance of Pope Francis on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. The evening will begin with a musical prelude at 6:30 PM, followed by the service at 7:00 PM.

This prayerful gathering will feature hymns, scripture readings, excerpts from Pope Francis’ writings, and reflections from local clergy and laypeople, shared in English and Spanish. The vigil is not only a Catholic observance, but a community expression of shared grief, gratitude, and unity inspired by a man whose compassion transcended religious boundaries.

Pope Francis, the first pope from the Americas and the first Jesuit pope, was deeply beloved across the world—not only by Catholics but by many of other faiths and even of no religious affiliation. Known for his humility, his commitment to the marginalized, and his consistent call for mercy and dialogue, Pope Francis became a global moral voice and a beacon of hope for millions.

In the days since his passing, Our Lady of Fatima has been deeply moved by the heartfelt messages of sympathy and admiration coming from people across all walks of life, including many who are not Catholic. These messages have inspired us to open our doors for a community vigil—a moment of shared remembrance that reflects the spirit of inclusivity and bridge-building that Pope Francis championed throughout his papacy.

Additionally, for those who wish to attend, a Catholic Memorial Mass will be offered by Bishop Mark Beckman, Bishop of Knoxville, at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 6:00 PM. Our Lady of Fatima Church will continue to honor Pope Francis with a monthly Mass for the repose of his soul throughout the upcoming year.

All are welcome. We hope you will join us for this evening of prayer, remembrance, and unity as we honor a man who called us all to walk together in faith, love, and justice.
