Before we can answer questions about Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration, we must address the Holy Eucharist.

Holy Eucharist:  We Catholics take Jesus Christ at His word. We believe that Jesus gave us His own body and blood in the special sacrament we call the Holy Eucharist. We Catholics actually believe that Jesus is really present in this sacrament! For us Catholics, the Holy Eucharist is not just a symbol. It is not just a memory. It is not just a promise. It is really Jesus Christ. The Holy Eucharist is not some ‘thing’. It is some ‘one’. It is Jesus, our Lord and our God. This is what we mean by the Catholic doctrine of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. This is why we call the Holy Eucharist "the Blessed Sacrament".

PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION – Q&A

What is Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration?
Why should I commit to an hour?
What do I do there?

Where is the Chapel?

What is Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration?  First of all, perpetual means continuing indefinitely, never ceasing, permanent.  Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is the adoration of Jesus Christ present in the Holy Eucharist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The Eucharist is displayed in a special holder called a monstrance, and people come to pray and worship Jesus continually. Christ’s great love for us was shown when he was crucified on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and give us eternal life. He loves us without limit, and offers Himself to us in the Holy sacrament of the Eucharist.

Why should I commit to an hour?  To have perpetual adoration in our parish, we must have one adorer, preferably two, scheduled for each of the 168 hours in the week.  An Adorer is someone who commits to one specific hour every week…ie. every Monday 1-2 p.m.  This way the Adoration team can be sure that Our Lord will never be left alone.  This can be at a time that is convenient to your busy schedule, or an hour that is a sacrifice like the early hours of the morning.  Perhaps you could select an hour such as when you wake up in the morning, on your way to work, during your lunch hour, maybe on your return from work.  Why not in the evening before you go to sleep?  If you put the Lord first in your life, good things will come to you.  Yes, this is a commitment, but you are not signing your life away.  We know that life happens (people get sick, go on vacation, etc.).  That is why we have substitutes and leadership in place to help you find a replacement on these occasions.

Listen to what the Pope John Paul II said: "The Church and the world have a great need of Eucharistic worship”.  Jesus waits for us in this sacrament of love. Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Him in adoration.  Notice how the Holy Father is asking you to be generous with your time.  He is not asking for your money but something much more precious – your time.

Obligate an hour with Our Lord each week, and you will find peace and comfort in your life that you did not know was possible.  So take a minute to select an hour to spend with our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.  Christ Himself is waiting for us to come and adore Him.

* If you are unable to select a specific hour, perhaps you might consider placing your name on the substitute list. Substitutes are needed to make our chapel work.  Sign-up

What do I do there?  It’s natural to wonder at first how to spend a whole hour in adoration.  But, first there are two things to know about the Adoration Chapel.  First, the proper way to enter the Adoration Chapel is to kneel on both knees before the Blessed Sacrament.  Second, the Adoration Chapel is a place of silence because we are in the real presence of the Lord and out of respect for others praying.

You can spend your time with Jesus any way you want.  You may bring your own prayer books; you can also use the books in the chapel, read the Bible, pray the rosary, talk to God from your heart, or just sit, relax, and enjoy the sweet peace that comes from just being in His presence.  There you can put the noise of this world aside and come be with Him in silence.  Allow Him to speak to, and change, your heart.

Where is the Adoration Chapel?  If you’ve not yet visited our Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, let me invite you to walk down the hall from the narthex.  When you step through the last door on the right, you step into the Real Presence of Jesus. Chapel Location
